Obuprazine meets its primary endpoint in a Phase 2b schizophrenia trial
Syndax’s lung fibrosis drug failed a trial, while Elicera and Tridem shared updates on cell therapy and a Parkinson’s vaccine.
Today in brief
In a 363-person Phase 2b trial, all three obuprazine doses reduced schizophrenia symptom scores more than placebo after 42 days.1 Syndax’s lung fibrosis drug failed a trial, and the company’s shares fell.2
Obuprazine improved schizophrenia symptom scores versus placebo
Tortugas Neuroscience and Hansoh Pharma said obuprazine met the primary endpoint in a randomized, double-blind Phase 2b study of adults with acute schizophrenia.1 At day 42, the lowest-dose group’s average Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) score fell 28.6 points, compared with 11.9 points on placebo.1 The placebo-adjusted differences were 16.7, 13.2 and 14.7 points for the low, middle and high doses, respectively.1
At day 42, all three doses also improved positive and negative symptom scores and a cognitive measure versus placebo.1 The companies said obuprazine’s results were numerically better than aripiprazole’s on several measures, including the primary endpoint.1 Tortugas plans to file a US investigational new drug application and submit the full results to a peer-reviewed journal.1
