InventisBio reports Phase III psoriasis success for nomelcitinib
Teva plans to end an emrusolmin study after a futility review. Early trials also reported findings in multiple sclerosis, transplant infections and menopause therapy.
Today in brief
InventisBio said nomelcitinib met the primary endpoint in a Phase III psoriasis trial in China, with more than 70% of patients in each dose group achieving at least 90% improvement by week 16.1 Teva plans to end its Phase II emrusolmin trial in multiple system atrophy after an interim review found a low likelihood of meeting the efficacy goal.2
Tiziana said intranasal foralumab met safety and neuroinflammation endpoints in a Phase IIa multiple sclerosis study. In a Phase 1b trial, SER-155 recipients had fewer bloodstream infections than placebo recipients.34
Nomelcitinib met its Phase III psoriasis endpoint in China
More than 70% of patients in each nomelcitinib dose group achieved at least a 90% improvement in psoriasis area and severity at week 16, meeting the trial's primary endpoint.1 The China-based trial enrolled 391 people with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis and compared two doses with placebo.1
More than 80% of patients taking nomelcitinib were rated clear or almost clear, a significantly higher share than among placebo recipients.1 Improvements in psoriasis severity and symptoms appeared by week four. Researchers reported no new safety signals.1
InventisBio is awaiting results from a separate Phase III comparison with Bristol Myers Squibb's Sotyktu and is studying nomelcitinib in a US Phase II trial.1
Teva to end Phase II emrusolmin trial after futility review
Teva plans to stop TOPAS-MSA, its Phase II study of emrusolmin in adults with multiple system atrophy, following a recommendation from an independent monitoring committee.2 A scheduled interim review crossed the study's futility threshold, suggesting a low chance that continued treatment would show efficacy. It was predictive, not a final efficacy analysis.2
The review found no safety concerns.2 The trial was designed to enroll nearly 350 participants and compare emrusolmin with placebo for about 48 weeks, followed by four weeks of follow-up.2
Emrusolmin is an investigational oral drug designed to target alpha-synuclein aggregation.2 Teva said stopping TOPAS-MSA does not decide the broader program's future and that it plans to share findings after a full analysis.2

In a 48-person Phase IIa study of non-active secondary progressive multiple sclerosis, Tiziana said intranasal foralumab met safety and neuroinflammation endpoints. The 50-microgram dose reduced neuroinflammation versus placebo, and no serious drug-related adverse events occurred.3

In a Phase 1b transplant study, bloodstream infections occurred in 10% of SER-155 recipients versus 43% of placebo recipients, a statistically significant difference. Study authors said the findings reflect vancomycin conditioning followed by SER-155, so the effects cannot be assigned to either component alone.4

A six-month study of 356 perimenopausal women linked oral estradiol and dydrogesterone with microbiome changes that differed by body site. The authors said the findings support tailoring therapy using gut and vaginocervical profiles.5
