NIH grant backs Southern Research methods facility
The planned Translational Hub for Research, Innovation, Validation, and Excellence, or THRIVE, will develop and validate new approach methodologies, which are intended to better represent human biology and reduce reliance on animal testing in drug development.1 Southern Research plans to make the facility’s models, data, and scientific expertise available to government researchers and biotech and pharmaceutical companies.1
The facility will be built in Birmingham beside Station 41, Southern Research’s commercialization hub.1 Harry Ledebur said THRIVE will benchmark the methods and produce evidence to support their use in drug development and regulatory decisions.1
