Roche strikes $1 billion deal with Rona on RNAi obesity treatment
Pfizer and Enodia also agreed to discover drugs that target proteins as cells make them, in a deal that could exceed $500 million.
Today in brief
Roche’s $1 billion agreement with Rona centers on RNA interference as a possible obesity treatment approach.1 A Pfizer-Enodia collaboration will search for small molecules that act on proteins during their production, with potential payments topping $500 million.2
Roche makes a $1 billion RNAi obesity deal with Rona
Roche agreed to a $1 billion deal with Rona focused on RNA interference, or RNAi, for obesity treatment.1 Roche is among the companies exploring RNAi as an approach to obesity treatment.1
Pfizer and Enodia will target proteins during synthesis
Pfizer and Enodia Therapeutics will discover small molecules that target proteins as cells make them.2 Enodia will lead discovery work on multiple undisclosed targets. Pfizer will handle later clinical development, manufacturing, regulatory work and commercialization.2
The agreement includes an upfront payment and could exceed $500 million in total value, including milestones and royalties.2 Enodia is developing machine-learning-designed molecules to modulate Sec61, a cellular channel involved in protein production. The company says its platform could support work in inflammation, immunology and cancer.2
