Sanofi and ScionxBio partner on longer-lasting mRNA therapies
The companies will test ScionxBio’s TERA platform with selected Sanofi candidates, without naming disease targets.
Today in brief
Sanofi and ScionxBio signed a global agreement to develop mRNA therapies that sustain protein production in the body.1 ScionxBio will optimize candidates through in vivo validation, then Sanofi is set to lead later preclinical work, clinical development, manufacturing and commercialization.1
Sanofi will take selected mRNA candidates into later development
The collaboration will use ScionxBio’s TERA platform to develop extended-exposure formulations of selected Sanofi mRNA candidates.1 TERA uses deep learning to assess relationships between molecular structure and activity in high-throughput screens.1
ScionxBio will lead optimization through in vivo validation, testing candidates in living systems, before Sanofi takes on further preclinical work and studies to prepare candidates for clinical trials.1 Sanofi is also set to handle clinical trials, manufacturing and global commercialization.1
The engineered molecules are designed to resist enzymatic breakdown and sustain protein expression in the body.1 The companies did not disclose disease targets. The approach concerns conditions that require sustained protein production, including inherited and acquired protein deficiencies.1
