Researchers map ribosome assembly inside human cells
An injectable hydrogel also repaired gastrointestinal fistulas in two animal models.
Today in brief
An EMBL team captured dozens of ribosome-assembly stages inside intact human cells and found that one protein binds earlier than expected.1 A temperature-responsive injectable hydrogel repaired gastrointestinal fistulas in rats and miniature pigs in tests for minimally invasive endoscopic surgery.2
Ribosome assembly, seen inside cells
EMBL researchers imaged dozens of ribosome-assembly intermediates inside intact human cells.1 They found that a protein previously thought to join late instead binds earlier in the process.1
Injectable hydrogel repairs fistulas in animals
Researchers tested a temperature-responsive injectable hydrogel for gastrointestinal fistula repair in rats and miniature pigs.2 The hydrogel worked in tests designed for minimally invasive endoscopic surgery.2
