Today in brief

Researchers evaluated EVLF-FM, a medical-imaging model that diagnoses conditions, answers visual questions and locates image regions while explaining its predictions.1 Development and testing involved more than 1.3 million samples. External validation used 13,443 samples from 17 additional datasets.1 The model’s highest reported average accuracy on internal diagnostic benchmarks was 0.895, and human assessment gave its explanations a mean score of 4.25 out of 5.1 SureChEMBL announced publication of a paper describing a redesign of its open database of chemical and biomedical annotations drawn from patent literature.2
